Step 10 – Constructing the Frame part 2 – Making a Rectangle

Putting your laminated edges together to form a complete frame is not too tricky.  Firstly let’s make sure that the joints are all perfect and ready.  Remove any glue blobs or stray wood with a super sharp chisel.  The joints want to be completely square and tight, so don’t slip.

To get an exact 90 degree join I used a pretty hefty mitre clamp, designed for welding jobs.  I then clamped up an arrangement to pull the joint tight. As I didn’t have long enough clamps, this involved using some clamps as anchor points, from which to brace the clamps that were actually working directly on the joint.

The final frame glue-up. I had to move it about a bit, to get to it.  Here you can see it having to be leant over – one of the annoying things about the up and over garage door is that it restricts height a lot.  Ahh, it will be so nice to have the doors instead.
