Step 8 – Prepare Channels for Weather seals
Before glueing anything it is also a good idea to cut out the grooves that your seal is going to fit into. The stuff I specified for this (see Step 5) required a 3mm wide 6mm deep groove to bed into.
You could make this numerous ways, a small tablesaw, an average circular saw, a router, or even a hand routing plane might work – just make sure that the blade is no more than 3mm wide and set the depth of cut appropriately.
Once you’re done, it is sensible to slide a ruler along the length of the groove to make sure it is deep enough at all points.
